Biography:
Christopher P. “Chris” Gelwicks is an attorney at Law Firm Carolinas whose practice focuses on homeowner and condominium association law and civil litigation. Based in Charlotte and licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina, he represents associations throughout both states.
Chris assists associations with formation, governing documents, ongoing operations, assessment collection, and disputes. He helps boards and community managers understand their authority, evaluate available options, and address legal questions before they develop into more costly conflicts.
Chris brings substantial litigation experience to his association practice. His background includes more than 60 jury trials, hundreds of bench trials, and mediation proceedings. He has represented association clients in trial courts across both Carolinas, the North Carolina and South Carolina Courts of Appeals, and the North Carolina Supreme Court. That experience informs his advice on both resolving disputes and preparing cases when litigation is necessary.
Chris serves on the College of Community Association Lawyers’ Amicus Review Committee, which reviews requests for friend-of-the-court briefs in cases affecting community associations. He also serves on the Community Associations Institute’s Case Law Update Team, helping review and summarize court decisions relevant to association law.
Chris regularly teaches programs for attorneys, community managers, and volunteer directors. His presentations have included CAI’s national Annual Conference, North Carolina Law Day and annual conference programs, and continuing legal education programs for the North Carolina and South Carolina Bars.
Chris joined Law Firm Carolinas in February 2025. He earned his undergraduate degree from Towson State University and his law degree from Regent University School of Law.
